Rain Barrel Project | UPDATED

The project is now about 75% complete. As you can see here the skid is now in place. A buddy of mine from work, Ryan, helped me maneuver it into place from the driveway above. Thanks, Ryan! I had to do some last second leveling before we set it down and it still isn't perfect but it should do. They are calling for rain and thunderstorms this weekend so hopefully the downspout won't washout my project until I can get a perforated pipe drain installed.

Here, the site is prepared. The soil is removed and the 2A modified has been dumped in, nearly leveled out and tamped down.

My Dad and I have this fascination with collecting rain water and talking about how it works out. I haven't collected any rain water yet at our new house but my Dad is somewhat seasoned (in more ways than one!)

Our property slopes down and away from the house so I want to put rain barrels near the front of our house near the highest elevation to provide some water pressure at the garden. I determined in my own mind that I would want to have the barrels be a certain elevation in relation to the house. This would require the barrels (there are 3 of them) to sit about 17" off the ground.

This is where I should have shared my plans with some other people because what I ended up with was alot of really heavy pressure treated lumber that is mostly there for aesthetics not structural integrity.

Here is the "skid" so far...

This is where the skid will go. The downspout will feed the barrels.
