Dusting the Furniture?

In one of GreenBean's books we read how Amelia Bedelia thinks and acts like a 3 year old when she starts a new job as a maid for a wealthy couple. One of her tasks was to "dust the furniture". Taking the instruction quite literally, she happens upon some "dusting powder" in the "powder room" of this mansion. She takes the "dusting powder" to the living spaces and begins showering the furniture with it. The wife of the house is quite angry when she discovers Amelia Bedelia's incompentence.

Yesterday, GreenBean acted out her own version of this story. Apparently she likes the feeling of baby powder on her feet because she was able to sprinkle most of the second floor (sparing my bedroom), the stairs and some of the living room with baby powder. Upon discovering the childish activity of her daughter, Wifey scolded her and warned her not to put anymore baby powder on the floor.

NOT TWO HOURS LATER...
GreenBean is told repeatedly to change out of the nice dress she was trying on and into pants and a shirt for supper. After meandering upstairs her family decides she is taking too long and begins the meal without her. Five minutes later, I march upstairs to find GreenBean changed but acting guilty. I notice a pungent scent of baby powder and see footprints on Screamer's bedroom floor.

She dumped more powder? Like I wrote already, she must like the feeling of it on her feet.

This willful defiance required swift consequenses. She took the swat without even a whimper and then sat in the middle of the kitchen (on her dinner chair) for ten minutes. She was going to sit anyway for being late to the table for supper. Later, she joined us for supper as if nothing had happened.

Sigh. Wifey said she has heard of worse things happening with baby powder.

This is the stuff we laugh about..... eventually.

That sounds like something Erica would do. Ugh!

What! one swat and a timeout for such blatant disobedience. Is the UN running the discipline in your house? That should have been a 5 swat minimum with a sturdy paddle. Remember, spare the rod, spoil the child. Look up the meaning of the word spoil in the scriptures. It is not like we use it today, the proper usage is to cause to rot, or to ruin. In other words, spare the rod and ruin the child. Remember this.
