Surprise! She Came In A Hurry

I don't know if any of you reading this have picked up on the discrepancy between "Wifey being induced Thursday morning at 8am" and the time of birth being 1:12am Thursday. That is because A~ was born quite naturally without pitocin or epidural and much sooner than anyone was expecting.

Wifey had been having contractions every five minutes for over an hour when we decided we should call the Dr. The Dr said, "go to the hospital." So we did. After arriving at the hospital around 11:30ish, no one was available to check Wifey's progress for over an hour. In the meantime she is getting no pain medicine. By the time a resident med student (I guess he was a student) got to checking her he says, "she is seven centimeters." SEVEN CENTIMETERS! HOLY COW, no wonder she feels "pushy". The nurses begin scrambling because they weren't ready yet. Thankfully there was a good Dr nearby; Dr Haynes, I believe. Anyway, the nurses are trying to get Wifey ready for an epidural by pumping an IV into her. They're bringing monitors and other equipment into the birthing room.

Well, Dr Haynes checks her again and she is 10cm, fully effaced and ready to have this baby. There was no time for an epidural which made Wifey rather angry. They scramble to "break the bed" because Wifey wants to push. She can hardly not push by this point. Doc decides to give Wifey some anthesthia. That takes like 5 or 10 minutes. Then finally the Doc says she can push. In four or five pushes, Andrea is born at 1:12am, December 8, 2005.

How about that? It was such an amazing experience, again, to be there to witness the birth of a person! Wifey was so brave and strong! I got light-headed just watching and had to sit down for a while. I just praise the Lord for his goodness and loving kindness. Andrea is healthy, normal and beautiful. God would still be good even if Andrea was not normal or healthy but I rejoice that he has answered our prayers. There is more to the pre-birth-story that I am too tired to share now.

If you leave comments, please share your name so we know who is writing. Thanks

She is beautiful!!! We are so happy for you! Glad that this labor was at least shorter (if not easier? Unfortunate about the lack of epidural available... I have not had kids yet but think epidurals are a great idea... :-D) Anyway Nate and I cannot WAIT to see her and you guys. Unfortunatley our car is in the shop for major repairs (transmission) so I don't know when we can get out, but we'll pray for Jolene to have an easy recovery from childbirth and we'll hope to see meet little Andrea soon! Take care!

Love in Christ, Nancy Elizabeth (&Nate)

Dear Andy and Joline,
Congratulations on the birth of Andrea!! Sounds like you all experienced the grace of God. We wish you a blessed Christmas and a wonderful 2006. Enjoy the moments with your little children!! Sometimes it seems like just yesterday we were in your shoes - but then when I look at the kids - I can't believe how much time has elasped. I'm thankful that I took the time to enjoy them at each stage along the way. In fact I find them a lot of fun at this point in time!! Take care and God bless!!! Dolly - for this family of Martin's
